If you’ve been using the Small Business Superannuation Clearing House (SBSCH) to pay your employees’ super, there’s some important news to be aware of. With the SBSCH closure and super changes scheduled for 1 July 2026, now is the time to start planning for a smooth transition and get ahead of the rush.

Why the Closure Matters

The Small Business Superannuation Clearing House (SBSCH) has long provided small businesses with a central way to lodge super contributions for multiple employees in a single transaction. This was a practical option for meeting super obligations. If you are using the SBSCH for lodging super, you’ll need to find a new way to report. Leaving it until the last minute could create stress, compliance issues, and late payments – which could lead to Superannuation Guarantee Charge.

How to Get Ready for the SBSCH Closure

Here’s a simple step-by-step plan to make the switch seamless:

Start exploring alternative super payment options

There are lots of ways to pay super outside the SBSCH, including other clearing houses or directly through your payroll software. Take the time now to research providers, compare costs, and pick one that suits your business.

For information on alternative payment methods see SuperStream for employers.

Download your super records

Before 1 July 2026, you must download all of your super records from the SBSCH. These records are essential for reconciling contributions, maintaining payroll records and being able to respond to audits or employee queries. After July 1 2026 the service will permanently close, and your records will no longer be accessible.

Know your last SBSCH payment

If you pay super quarterly, the ATO recommends that your January–March 2026 payment (due 28 April 2026) be your final payment via SBSCH. After this, download your records and switch to your new provider.

Important: Your April–June 2026 payment (due 28 July 2026)cannot go through SBSCH after 30 June 2026. Make sure your new system is ready before then.

  • Communicate with employees: Let them know their super contributions will continue seamlessly.
  • Keep records safe: Download and store your SBSCH history for easy reference.
